What does your skin do at night?

Does it fall asleep with you? What cream would be best for night care? Why should it be rich?

At night, the skin regenerates, rests, and relaxes. But this does not mean it stops working! It works at full speed! Night time is when the skin removes impurities from the entire day. Research on the body’s circadian rhythm show us what happens to our skin at night.

The best time to apply skin care products is around 10:00 pm. This is the time when skin cells begin their job, so all active substances will be absorbed better and faster.

Before 1:00 am, the epidermis cells divide several times faster than during the day.

Between 1:00 and 2:00 am, the body starts to remove toxins and all impurities accumulated during the day. It transfers unnecessary substances to the lymphatic system and begins its repairing processes. The time between 2:00 and 3:00 am is crucial for the skin’s regeneration. This is when active substances from creams are absorbed. Elastin fibres regenerate and the protective epidermis layer rebuilds itself. The skin regulates the amount of water in its tissues. Tension and temperature rise and the tissues are well-oxygenated and become flexible. We say that the skin breathes better at night.

Between 4:00 and 5:00 am the cells undergo an intense regenerative process. The skin absorbs vitamins and microelements. The amount of anti-inflammatory substances, including cortisol, increases. This soothes irritations and is especially important in the case of acne problems.

At 7:00 am the blood circulation stabilises and the intense regeneration comes to an end.

The skin has many tasks to fulfil at night. It seems that it is then that the proper skin care is the most important. Skin deprived of additional cosmetics, powders, foundations, and mascaras absorbs active substances from creams better. At night the skin is better supplied with blood, so it absorbs the most beneficial ingredients. At night skin cells divide ten times faster than during the day! The amount of the growth hormone produced by the pituitary gland increases, so all repairing processes occur much faster.

For our skin it is best, if we sleep 7-8 hours a night, from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am. This is not always possible, but the most important thing is that the skin is properly cleaned. This is crucial for the cream to absorb.

So which creams are best suited for the evening? Short answer: rich! In the evening we can use “heavier” products that contain maximum amounts of active substances. They most often contain: collagen, elastin, retinol, vitamins, and peptides.
